Musical Choices

Music has always been an enriching aspect of UEW. An informal singing group with percussion meets most days for relaxed sessions. There will also be music appreciation sessions.

Free Day

The free day is Wednesday and you are free to make your own arrangements or join a group outing to Chatsworth House and / or Gardens.

Participation is voluntary for all activities at UEW ~ theme, worship, socials, workshops. Our timetable is designed to provide a rich menu of interest and fun ~ it offers a wide range of activities ~ but everything is optional.

The Location

The village of Great Hucklow is situated in the White Peak (limestone) area of Derbyshire. It is accessible by public transport from Sheffield, Chesterfield and Buxton. The surrounding area has plenty to interest the visitor including well dressings, sacred places and stately homes.

Accommodation:

There are 6 single, 19 twin/double in total 6 of the twin are en-suite (4 of which are easy access), one family room en-suite, one 4-bed and overflow dormitory accommodation. There is an additional en-suite equipped for a wheelchair user and carer. Every room has a wash hand basin unit, a wardrobe and chest of drawers. Shower suites and bathrooms are conveniently spaced between rooms.

Facilities

The centre contains a pleasant lounge, a large dining room, a small library/internet centre, a conference room, and a social hall. All key areas are wheelchair accessible. A Laundry and an indoor drying facilities area are available. Hot drinks and filtered water are available at any time.

Accommodation price includes all meals. Special dietary needs (e.g. vegetarians, allergy sufferers, etc) should be notified in advance, as should any other needs, on the booking form.

Children and Teenagers

UEW is designed to cater for adults and while children and teenagers are welcome there is no special programme planned for them.

The Experience

At Unitarian Experience Week we meet to share friendship, laughter and open discussion. We enjoy summer in the Derbyshire countryside and we explore and expand our horizons. This experience is open to all; you will find a warm welcome, a friendly, informal atmosphere and free time to explore the beauty of the Peak District.

Theme

Golden relates to gold, a colour of richness, a period of creativity and prosperity, times when people are at their best, things that endure and are of value, the inherent worth and dignity of all people. We will celebrate the golden years at Great Hucklow, our evolution from Family Holiday Conference to Unitarian Experience Week in a Golden Memories Session.

Spirituality

Spiritual needs are catered for throughout the week. Mornings begin with meditation, followed by time for reflection. There will also be evening epilogues.

Other Activities

Social Events ~ Free Day on Wednesday ~ Grand Finale
